This page is for Travis, Lee, and David...

Three of my friends were killed in a car accident in Giles county on January 25, 2000 when the car they were driving at a high rate of speed ran up under the back of a dumptruck, killing two instantly and one only minutes later.  Memories of that period of time are mostly a blurr to me and I know the sadness will never go away.  Lee and David, we partied together and had fun...and Travis, you picked on me like no one else. I never did buy that stupid skateboarding video game you were supposed to come up and play. I don't know why. Either way, you wouldn't have made it there to do so. I'll always miss you and you'll never be forgotten.

On a lighter note... I'll never forget the time that we went to the Hawks Nest. The Hawks Nest is an observation lookout that's a little ways off the Appalachain Trail. It was Travis D, Travis R, Allen B, Duck, Katrina, Isaac, Cory, Rachel and me--and maybe a few others...It seemed like it took forever to get just to the place where you start hiking. Anyway, we got there, parked the cars and started up this huge hill. Travis D, Cory and Allen ran way ahead as usual. When we all finally got there, it was so cold. It felt like we were on top of the world! We looked all the way around from atop the cliffs and all you could see were rolling, wooded hills below us. We looked all the way around us and there was nothing that was higher than we were. There was an observation tower that you could get up into. We all went inside and the guys were trying to scare the girls. The wind was howling and the observation tower started swaying gently back and forth with all of us inside of it. We all got out! There was a sort of ridge of rocky cliffs that peaked to a triangular point that no smart human being would ever try to walk across....but leave it to Travis D...he had the bright idea of walking out on these cliffs--it was a balancing act. The only way off of the peak of these cliffs was straight down if you didn't make it across. But then you had to make it back! The wind was terrible and I just knew that Travis was going to fall. I could see it. I truly thought that I was getting ready to see him fall to his death. We tried to yell at him to get down but he wouldn't. So I think finally either Cory or Duck went and got him. We all hiked back down and stayed at the cars for a little while. It was so much fun being all together that way. Just a bunch of friends being silly together, having a good time. Anyway, my sister brought it up to me recently. I had forgotten it until she reminded me. It's amazing how a day that fun got overshadowed in my head the way it did. I was almost ashamed. Thinking of that day brings back such good memories. I haven't been back to the Hawks Nest since that day. I hope to get back there soon.
